NH State Police Patrol Route 125 Again; Fireworks Safety: Roundup | Concord, NH Patch

CONCORD, NH — July is going to be a busy month for the New Hampshire Department of Safety and its law enforcement partners as they begin patrolling Route 125 again for safety concerns.

The initiative, which will operate directed patrols from Epping to Milton, first started in 2021 after a number of accidents along the corridor. According to state police, nearly 4,900 crashes have been reported on the 50-mile stretch of road that begins in Haverhill, Massachusetts, and runs through Maine, during the past nine years.

Last year, the patrols ran the entire length of the highway.

Lt. Keith Walker, the commander of New Hampshire State Police Troop A, said drivers needed to make the right choices while behind the wheel.

“Plan on using alternative transportation if you will be consuming alcohol,” he said. “And always wear your seatbelt to prevent injury or death in the event of a collision.”

Chief Michael Wallace of the Epping Police Department said he hoped the patrols would “reduce the number of accidents and for motorists to arrive at their destinations safely.”

Rockingham County Sheriff Charles Massahos agreed.

“We ask you to drive like everyone’s lives depend on it,” he said. “Watch your speed, use your seatbelt, refrain from distractions, and extend courtesy to others sharing the road.”

The cost of the beefed-up patrols is offset by New Hampshire Office of Highway Safety grants.

Troop F troopers were kept busy with a shooting incident on Tuesday in Bath.

State police were sent to West Bath Road around 9:30 p.m. after two men were treated for gunshot wounds.

“The incident appears to be isolated and all parties are known to each other,” Amber Lagace, a public information officer, said. “There is no threat to the public.”

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact New Hampshire State Police Detective Garrett Rella at 603-223-8883 or by email at Garrett.M.Rella@dos.nh.gov.

A man from New York was arrested on Tuesday after being accused of using an altered and fraudulent utility bill as proof of residency while attempting to obtain a New Hampshire driver’s license.

Dimitri Saintvil, 34, after an investigation at the Manchester DMV, was charged with unsworn falsification and tampering with public records after it was determined he actually lived in New York, according to state police. He was released on personal recognizance bail and is due in Manchester District Court on Aug. 12.

Anyone with information relating to this crime is asked to contact Trooper First Class Christopher Prenaveau at Christopher.J.Prenaveau@dos.nh.gov.
